Be proud of your character, not your Belt rank.

Some people seem to be focussed primarily on obtaining rank and status instead of working on themselves, their character, and their martial arts abilities.
.
Belts are not a trophy to display and show off. If you study a martial art for the purpose of acquiring belts, then you might as well quit now and go buy a black belt at a store. Belts are milestones, they are given when your instructor thinks you have attained the proper mental and technical level. You have to earn them. If you managed to get to black belt without ever trying, then you didn’t earn it, you bought it.
.
The purpose of your belt, is to indicate incremental improvements in your performance, attitude, behavior and understanding as you train.
.
Belts and status only mean something when you earn them, not buy them.
