Humility is a very important human trait that all of us should exercise in our daily lives. Being humble means you aren’t too big for any lesson that may come your way.
.
The core significance of being humble is that humility keeps you constantly receptive to opportunities for improvement, to learn. If you are not humble or cannot attain humility, you are not likely to improve or reach a higher level in your martial arts.

Humility teaches us to be grateful for what we have and the experiences we go through. This is amplified especially during training, where humility and being open to constructive criticism are some of the keys to learning.
.
The further we develop as martial artists, the more we improve, and subsequently, the more confident we become. But don’t confuse confidence with skill. They don’t always go hand-in-hand. Sometimes, a false sense of confidence can mask a lack of skill. By being humble throughout training, we are given a better understanding of what to improve upon.
.
As you improve it is easy to develop an inflated impression of yourself. Does the conversation always end up being about you?….. Kwai Chang Cain from the Kung Fu TV series (1970’s), said to his Master while being served tea; “After you, honorable sir.”…. Remember that it’s not always about you. Listen to others, there is always something to learn from everyone you meet.
.
“Being the best is not about being better than anyone else, but striving to be the best that you can be, and bringing out the best in others.” – Dominick Cruz
.
Humility, confidence, skill, – they are developed in succession. It is okay to be confident, but always remember to be humble. Skill is a by-product of both.
.
In order to achieve our full potential, practicing humility everyday is paramount to improving, not just as a martial artist, but has a human being. ??
